Prices of essential kitchen items and fruits registered reduction during this week past against the preceding week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed, here on Saturday. The survey observed that prices of the most of the vegetables, chicken and fruits witnessed a decline during the last week. The prices of non-perishable daily use items including rice, spices, pulses, wheat flour and others remained stable.

Chicken was available with a reduction of Rs 300 per 40 kg at Rs 5,700 per 40kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 180 per kg against Rs 185 per kg, while chicken meat was being sold at Rs 290 per kg against Rs 300 per kg. Eggs prices remained stable at Rs 125 per dozen which in retail market were being sold at Rs 135-140 per dozen.

During the week under review, tomatoes price went down from Rs 700 to Rs 600 per 15kg, onions price went down from Rs 270 to Rs 230 per 5kg and potatoes price went down from Rs 200 to Rs 150 per 5kg. In retail market, onion was being sold at Rs 55 per kg against Rs 65 per kg, tomatoes at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 80 per kg and potatoes at Rs 35 per kg against Rs 45-50 per kg.

The price of various qualities of garlic witnessed slight reduction as Desi garlic was available at Rs 400 per 5kg against Rs 450 per 5kg and Quetta garlic at Rs 500 per 5kg against Rs 550 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 100-140 per kg against Rs 125-175 per kg.

Ginger price further came down from Rs 750 to Rs 650 per 5kg which in retail was being sold at Rs 150 per kg against Rs 180 per kg. Local lemon was being sold at Rs 1,000 per 5kg while Chinese lemon at Rs 300 per 5kg which in retail were being sold at Rs 70 and Rs 210 per kg respectively.

During the week under review, prices of the entire range of non-perishable kitchen items remained stable as best quality rice was available at Rs 130 per kg, wheat at Rs 750 per 20kg bag and sugar was being sold at Rs 60 per kg. Prices of all the major pulses witnessed no change as white lentil (Maash) was being sold at Rs 180 per kg, good quality grams at Rs 200 per kg, kidney bean (Lobia) in the range of Rs 120-140 per kg, green gram (Moong) at Rs 120 per kg and red lentils (Masoor) was being sold at Rs 110 per kg.

Spinach was being sold at Rs 150 per 5kg in wholesales market while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 35 per bundle and mint was being sold at Rs 200 per 5kg against Rs 150 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 45 per bundle. Capsicum price went up down Rs 580 to Rs 470 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 110 per kg against Rs 130 per kg; peas price went down to Rs 250 per 5kg in wholesales market, which in retail were being sold at Rs 65 per kg; taro's (arvi) price remained stable at Rs 200 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50 per kg, carrot price went down from Rs 230 per 5kg to Rs 170 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 55 per kg and a pack of 8kg radish price reduced from Rs 100 per pack to Rs 80 per pack which in retail market was being sold at Rs 20 per kg against Rs 25 per kg.

Okra price remained stable at Rs 800 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 180 per kg, price of ridge gourd (tori) went up from Rs 350 per 5kg to Rs 400 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 95 per kg against Rs 80 per kg. Cauliflower price further came down from Rs 240 to Rs 150 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45 per kg while cabbage price went down from Rs 200 to Rs 140 per 5 kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 50 per kg.

Brinjal price further went up from Rs 280 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 65 per kg, cucumber price went down from Rs 230 to Rs 160 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 60 per kg.

Price of apple gourd (tinda) further went up from Rs 230 per 5kg to Rs 250 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 55 per kg; pumpkin (maro kaddu) price further went up from Rs 260 per 5kg to Rs 430 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 110 per kg against Rs 60 per kg, bitter gourd (karela) price went further up from Rs 540 to Rs 700 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 150 per kg against Rs 120 per kg.

Fruits' prices during this week witnessed significant reduction as good quality banana was available at Rs 75 per dozen against Rs 90 per dozen, normal quality banana was being sold in the range of Rs 50-60 per dozen against Rs 60-70 per dozen and Indian banana price went down from Rs 150 per dozen to Rs 130 per dozen. Good quality guava was available at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 80 per kg and normal quality guava at Rs 50 per kg. However pomegranate price witnessed a reduction from Rs 150 per kg to Rs 130 per kg while Kandahari pomegranate price witnessed further increase from Rs 170 per kg to Rs 175 per kg. Various qualities of oranges were available in the range of Rs 80 to Rs 160 per dozen against Rs 70 to Rs 120 per dozen.

Normal quality white apple was being sold at Rs 100 per kg, Kala Kalu apple price went down from Rs 180 per kg to Rs 150 per kg, golden apple was being sold at Rs 130 per kg against Rs 150 per kg, Ambari apple at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 80 per kg, while Chinese and other imported apples were being sold in the range of Rs 200-250 per kg.
